What is a urinary catheter change?
A urinary (Foley) catheter is a thin flexible tube placed into the bladder to drain urine when the patient cannot empty the bladder naturally. Long-term catheters must be changed at regular intervals. Our nurse removes the old catheter and inserts a new one using sterile technique, and teaches family members how to care for the catheter and drainage bag.
