What is a home injection service?
Our nurse visits your address to administer the injections prescribed by your doctor. Antibiotic courses, pain relief, vitamin B12 and blood-thinning injections are the most common. The medicine name, dose and expiry date are checked against the prescription, single-use sterile supplies are used and you are observed briefly after the injection.

Types of injections
- Intramuscular (IM): antibiotics, pain relief, B12 — usually in the hip or upper arm
- Intravenous (IV): fast-acting medicines given directly into a vein under nurse supervision
- Subcutaneous (SC): blood thinners and insulin — usually in the abdomen
Antibiotic courses at home
Antibiotic injections must be given at set times until the course is completed. Stopping early can cause the infection to return. Our nurse visits at the same times every day during the course so no dose is missed.
After the injection
Mild pain or redness at the injection site is common and passes in a day or two. Shortness of breath, swelling of the lips or tongue, widespread rash or dizziness may indicate a serious allergic reaction — call 112 immediately.
