Limits of an ECG
An ECG records only a few seconds of heart rhythm; palpitations that come and go may require a 24-hour Holter. It does not show heart valves or pumping function — for that, a home echocardiogram is needed. For chest pain spreading to the arm or jaw, cold sweats and shortness of breath, do not wait — call 112.
